  • Friday with a requirement to work rostered Saturdays**Our Justice and Immigration division provides essential services across our Custodial, Immigration, Community and Housing services.

Serco's Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (
PECS) contract for Kent and the East of England makes a critical contribution to the Criminal Justice System in England and Wales, by ensuring the safe, secure and decent transport of prisoners between courts andtheir associated prisons and police stations.


The successful Court Custody Manager will need to develop a culture of team working and customer service within a defined area.

Also, support the Operations Manager in the achievement of all KPIs, SLAs and Contractual requirements.


The emphasis is on leading and managing others, delivering through others and shaping the environment for others to deliver in the short to medium term.


Overview of the role:


As the successful Court Custody Manager, you will help enable the court location to operate safely, complying with all relevant legislation and contractual obligation.

This will include managing a team of Prison Custody Officers, focusing on prisoner welfare,safety and security as well as the efficient deployment of, and day to day management of staff.


Responsibilities:


  • Create a positive working environment dealing effectively with issues and challenges, provide appropriate management support and guidance
  • Deliver optimum staffing levels for area of responsibility to enable contractual obligations to be met.
  • Foster a collaborative working culture with other areas of the business to support the "one team" ethos.
  • Meet personal targets and objective as agreed with Operations manager
  • Adhere to, and enforce Serco Health and safety policies and carry out risk assessments to minimise accidents and promote safe working.
  • Ensure staff are aware of their own obligations and responsibilities by carrying out daily, weekly, or ad hoc briefings and debriefing as required.
  • Carry out Performance Development reviews, within the Serco set time frames, thereby ensuring each team member has the opportunity to develop, achieve realistic career goals and contribute fully to the delivery of our contract.
  • Monitor and manage information flows and data capture to ensure compliance and safety and welfare standards are met and clearly evidenced.
  • Create excellent relationships with HMCTs staff and represent Serco at Court User Meeting to maintain standards and improve efficiency.

Skills, experience, knowledge:

Possess or able to achieve Prisoners Custody Officer accreditation. Including C & R and First Aid.

  • Operational and stakeholder management within a demanding environment
  • Team Management and organisation
  • Computer literate
  • Time management
Desirable

  • Knowledge of Criminal Justice Systems

Specific Requirements

  • Working flexibly over a 6 day period (Monday to Saturday) with a willingness and ability to travel within the UK where required including off site meetings, sometimes necessitating overnight stays
