South Yorkshire Police currently has an exciting opportunity to join our Force Crime Bureau.

You will join our established team and the role is critical to the core function of Crime recording, Quality Assurance and Crime Data Accuracy.


We are looking for people with the right personal qualities - professionalism, enthusiasm, attention to detail, proactivity, prepared to work under their own initiative as well as taking direction and to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

You should also demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in your work.


The role of FCB operator involves weekend working and attracts a shift allowance of 20% to reflect the requirement to work 24-hour shifts.

The current rota is four 10 or 12 hr shifts on then four days off.

The successful applicant will be expected to work the full shift pattern on one of the four teams working the patten.


Although basic computer literacy is essential there are no specific qualifications required for this role, previous knowledge of criminal law is desirable but not essential.

The successful applicant will be supported with an in-depth training package around relevant police systems and legislation.

The training is scheduled to start in
September 2024 Monday - Friday office hours and upon completion the successful applicant is likely to join their respective team in
November 2024.



Key responsibilities are:


  • Receiving, reviewing and inputting all report of crime
  • Providing advice on matters relating to crime
  • Utilising local decisionmaking tools to determine whether crimes can be filed or passed for further research and investigation
  • Identify vulnerable victims of crime
  • Informing and advising victims regarding the progression of their investigation
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Interrogating and update systems

Skills and experience:


  • Excellent customer service skills with a customer centric approach
  • Must have a flexible approach to work to meet the needs of the organisation including working a 24hour shift system and weekends where applicable
  • Must have proven ability in the use of windows based computer systems, either by qualification or work experience
