Job summary:

The AGO is a ministerial department serving the Attorney General and the Solicitor General (the Law Officers). The Law Officers are the Government's chief legal advisers.

The Law Officers make important decisions that affect public life.

Among other things, they decide whether to send criminal sentences that may be too low to the Court of Appeal; whether to open inquests into deaths (for example, the Attorney General made the decision to open new inquests into the deaths at Hillsborough); are the Government's chief legal advisors, providing advice to both the Prime Minister and Secretaries of State on a range of pressing issues touching on every aspect of daily life in the UK; and they represent the Crown Prosecution Service and Serious Fraud Office in Parliament.


The Office comprises around 55 multidisciplinary, engaged and high performing team members advising and supporting the Law Officers in all aspects of their work.

Job description:The post holder(s) will cover some or all of the following:

  • Review Knowledge and Information policies and processes regarding the creation, collection, storage, retention and removal of data and information held by the organisation.
  • Ensure AGO meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining data protection and storage.
  • To assist and undertake data search responsibilities relating to Freedom of Information Requests, where needed.
  • Assist the Corporate Services Team Manager and Director of Corporate Services with the recording and review of historic documents.
  • Where appropriate, lead on KIM projects under the Corporate Services Team Leaders supervision.
  • You many be required to supervise an AO grade colleague in their KIM responsibilities in the absence of the CST Manager.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the office, providing effective challenge on performance as required. Working closely with specialist procurement support within the LODs.
  • To assist members of the Corporate Services Team, when required, with the daytoday management of the Attorney General's office.
  • Supporting the development/evolution of our customer focused services.
  • Ensure provision of high quality and consistent communications with customers and key stakeholders.
  • Provide a visible presence for our customers, ensuring the best quality of service and excellent customer communications.

Person specification:


  • Essential criteria:_
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to deliver multiple tasks to short deadlines.
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good written communication skills across a variety of platforms.
  • Good use of Microsoft 365 platforms, including office 365, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrable ability to review and analyse data and information in order to make effective decisions.
  • Desirable criteria:_
  • Knowledge of Data principles such as the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act, though training will be provided.
  • Previous experience handling, managing and reviewing information in line with policies is desirable, though not essential.
