Payroll
The Payroll Team is responsible for the preparation of the monthly payroll for Allen and Overy's UK based employees (approx and posting of payroll related costs to the accounting system. In addition, it is responsible for processing the remittance for Contractors who are operating 'Inside IR35'.


What you will do


As a Payroll Specialist you will be responsible for a number of key monthly processes as well as handling employee queries and processing payroll changes in a timely manner.

You will also deputise in the Payroll Manager's absence, assuming responsibility for the co-ordination and delivery of all payroll/remittance activity, and providing support and guidance when requested.


This role also involves:

  • Inputting and processing all aspects of the monthly payroll
  • Administration of IR35 payrolls
  • Processing HMRC notifications including but not limited to tax code changes and Student Loan notifications
  • Dealing with all direct employee/contractor payroll enquiries
  • Liaising with the HR Administration team and with HR managers regarding individual employee payroll/contractors queries and payments (including calculations for the purposes of assignments or secondments)
  • Calculating of all aspects of monthly payroll including, and not limited to, SSP and SMP, GAYE, one off payments, employee loans etc
  • Producing P45 certificates for leavers
  • Assisting with benefit administration such as Pensions, PMI, Dental and salary sacrifice schemes
  • Monthly reconciliation of payroll/remittance control accounts, creation of journals and year end processes
  • In liaison with the Payroll Manager:
  • Reviewing/ authorising the monthly payroll/contractors remittance calculation prior to sign-off
  • Finalising the 'Errors and Exceptions' report
  • Preparing files for the release of the BACS payments
  • Keeping up to date with new legislation and regulatory ruling impacting payroll
  • Ad hoc projects as required by the Payroll Manager
  • RTI assisting Payroll Manager in the preparation and sending of all RTI files

What you will have

  • Proven track record in processing a comparable sized payroll and be comfortable processing SSP, SMP and gross to net manual calculations
  • Previous experience of preparing reconciliations of general ledger accounts
  • Experience in Accounting and Financial systems
  • Highly numerate with exemplary attention to detail
  • Highly organized and able to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)
  • Flexibility and overtime at peak times such as payroll/remittance cut off and sign off

You will stand out if you bring

  • Experience of PeopleSoft Global Payroll
  • Experience of IBM Cognos Reporting
  • A recognised professional payroll qualification
  • CIPP Membership
  • Experience working in an inhouse payroll team and dealing with outsourced payroll providers
  • Experience working in the professional services industry
