Department Overview

  • The Finance & Performance Directorate plays a critical role in protecting the Bank's financial position and reputation. The overall purpose of the Directorate is to contribute to the successful execution of the Bank's aims and objectives by ensuring it has an appropriate financial platform for its broader responsibilities, and for the challenges facing an organisation of more than 4,000 staff, with annual expenditure of circa £700mn.

The Finance & Performance Directorate has four main Divisions, Financial Reporting & Control, Financial Analytics & Insight, the Corporate Investment Portfolio Office and Finance Strategy.


The Accounts Payable team pays suppliers, implements the Control Framework for the Bank's expenses, and ensures expenditure and income are accurately recorded in the Bank's financial and tax records.


The Bank believes that all its suppliers and employees should be treated fairly and demonstrates this commitment as a signatory to the Prompt Payment Code.

The teams main responsibility is to ensure these standards are always exceeded and this role will be a key player in this.

The role involves performing a number of regular daily, weekly, monthly and ad-hoc operational tasks, including:


  • Invoice processing and payment of the Bank's suppliers via the CODA Invoice Matching system
  • Second line approval on all expenses including EDs, DGs, the Governor and external committee members
  • Investigation of invoices not matched to orders
  • Maintaining supplier details, dealing with queries
  • Advice and training of key contacts in business areas
  • Supplier and customer liaison management


The Bank operates a 'no Purchase Order, no Payment' policy, invoices cannot be processed, if supplier invoices do not state a valid purchase order for their full value.

The team works closely with COOs and Procurement on resolving Purchase Order and invoice relating queries with majority of tasks rotating between the team members.

The role holder will share responsibility for monitoring Purchase Orders not receipted within 30 days as well as invoices received without a valid Purchase Order and reporting them to Procurement, COOs and Compliance.


Role Requirements

Minimum (Essential) Criteria

  • Good IT skills, and able to learn new IT systems and processes
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent workload management skills with a core focus on delivery
  • A willingness to learn and develop themselves, and to take on new responsibilities
  • An excellent team player and able to work collaboratively with others and share knowledge
  • Previous experience of Invoice and expenses processing and reconciliations
  • Experience of using different systems (such as Facilities Online and Coda) and familiarity with Excel
  • Able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders at various levels from both within and outside the directorate
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality; you will have access to and be working with data pertaining to employees

Desirable Criteria

  • An understanding of the Bank's accounting structure, tax and processes relevant to paying invoices
  • Experience in a customer service role and having the skills to deal with difficult situations or people
