Job summary:

A product manager defines, owns and solve problems. They manage a product through discovery, alpha, beta and live states. They support lead and senior product managers. They may line manage associate product managers and support their professional development.

They have a deep knowledge of product management techniques and are developing expert skills. They may be involved in recruitment.

This can be an 'entry level' role for new product managers who have been working in other digital roles or civil servants with sufficient experience across other competencies.

Job description:


  • Responsible for managing daytoday product planning and delivery on behalf of Senior Product Managers, across a range of social security welfare benefit projects or support services and platforms
  • Support the development and delivery of functionality, for which you are responsible, to meet the needs of both internal and external users
  • Understand the relationship between your specific products and how they relate to any wider systems and processes that contribute to overall management and development of live services
  • Create effective, prioritised product descriptions and delivery plans to meet user needs in a cost effective way
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships
  • Interpret user research in order to make the correct product decisions.
  • Use product management principles and approaches
  • Communicate credibly with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the management of an allocated budget

Person specification:


  • 1. You will have a proven track record of working and delivering in a fastpaced environment. Being able to understand and identify the appropriate solutions.
  • 2. Demonstrable experience of creating and maintaining excellent relationships with key stakeholders and work collaboratively with them to deliver successful outcomes.
  • 3. Able to collate, organise, analyse and use information to plan and deliver services, products and technology improvements. Within this experience of presenting complex information, in writing and verbally, to staff and senior leaders.
