Job Title - Data Sharing Officer

Salary - circa £38,000 per annum (depending on experience), plus excellent benefits

Location - Palestra with hybrid ways of working

Contract - Permanent (TfL)


The Role

As the Data Sharing Officer, you'll have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our policing partners, taking responsibility for ensuring that all Data Protection Act (DPA) requests received from the police meet the relevant legal and policy requirements for processing of personal data held by TfL in accordance with the (GDPR Act 2018).


It will be your task to support police and other law enforcement agencies in their investigations by identifying perpetrators through viewing CCTV, merging data sets and analysing large volumes of data & securing it as evidence for use in criminal prosecutions.


As the Data Sharing Officer, you will use your specialist knowledge to provide expert advice and guidance to our policing partners.

You will respond quickly to requests relating to major incidents and serious crimes whilst using your own initiative to prioritize tasks to meet demands.

By doing all of this, you will in turn help to keep the network safer for all our passengers.


Key Accountabilities

  • Support TfL's contribution to the investigation and detection of crime through the disclosure of personal data to police for investigation into National Security and other serious crimes committed on and off the TfL Network.
  • Work with internal & external stakeholders to achieve disclosure objectives making our Networks safer for all who use it.
  • Take ownership of own cases by collating & analysing large volumes of complex data & merging of data sets, viewing CCTV including body worn video tagging / downloads for staff assaults to establish an outcome for police investigations.
  • Support Tech & Data by carrying out user acceptance testing on various reports as and when required when upgrades to systems occur to ensure that TfL and our third party policing partners are competent in its accuracy before it is released. This includes reporting any anomaly in reports to Tech & Data so that they are investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Responsible for coordinating and processing high volumes of requests in a timely manner ensuring all data released to our policing partners is relevant, necessary and proportionate, following agreed processes and adhering to best practice for auditing purposes.
  • Draft accurate written statements for sign off by TfL Management for the Crown Prosecution Service with regard to data release on criminal investigations worked on for the police, for evidential purposes.
  • Lead on the coordination and delivery of police training on all IT systems within the Unit to increase their confidence & knowledge base in interrogating the IT systems to obtain required data to be fully competent to carry out their role.
  • Responsible for interpreting complex data from different sources and provide expert, practical advice and guidance to colleagues in the Police and other parties regarding data held on the TfL Systems to aid criminal investigations.
  • Contribute to the increased safety & security of TfL's network by assisting police investigations in identifying offenders who commit crimes on our network. This provides reassurance to our passengers, ensures that victims get their desired outcome whilst contributing towards increased patronage and a reduction in reputational damage.

The post holder will be required to build and maintain close working relationships with key members of TfL and partner organisations to deliver the effective functioning of a data sharing team in support of crime, investigation, detection and the apprehension of offenders.

  • All departments in CPOS Directorate, Data Control, Fraud and Corruption, Licensing & Regulations, Lost Property, Tech & Data, Cycle Hire, Network Management Control Centre, Information Governance, Customer Services & Human Resources including contractors Cubic, & Esotec.

  • Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), British Transport Police (BTP), City of London Police (CoLP), all other police forces/constabularies, London Councils & various Fraud Investigators, National Crime Agency (NCA) & Local Authorities.
