About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO'S PERSUASIVE POWERS
The Adult Services team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers.

It's a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of - and they were keen for people to spread the word.

So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that.

Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal.

And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

The Role:

As a Support Worker in our community-based outreach service you can make your own powerful contribution to bringing people together.

We work with adults and young people who are most at risk of becoming isolated or excluded. These include people with a learning disability or autism, and people who present behaviours that concern.

Using a person-centred approach, we take the time to understand each service user, learn what's important and meaningful to them and develop bespoke services that increase their quality of life.

As a Support Worker you will help our service users set aspirational goals and provide them with highly personalised support as they work towards them.

Your patient and considered approach will offer service users choice and control.

As well as working directly with vulnerable individuals and others in their social circle, you will carry out administrative tasks such as session evaluations and communication plans.

Beyond this, you'll also contribute to planning wider service delivery.

This is an opportunity to develop your skills as part of an industry-leading outreach service that operates regular hours, Monday to Friday only.

About You:

Passionate about empowering people and making a difference to the lives of others, you're likely to have some experience of working with people with complex and enduring support needs.

Ready to respond compassionately to unpredictable behaviours, you'll be capable of communicating using a range of methods.

You'll be familiar with person-centred approaches to care and capable of working in partnership with a wide range of professionals and carers.

A Level 3 qualification in Social Care and a current UK driving licence are desirable.
