Job overview:


The appointee will be expected to deliver first class anaesthetics and post operative care to all surgical patients at South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

The model of care developed at the centre requires excellent communication skills as the on-going care and management of the patients is delivered by the anaesthetists with close communication with the orthopaedic surgeon.


Main duties of the job:


  • To at all times, comply with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time.
  • To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with the SWLEOC Medical Director.
  • To be responsible and managerially accountable for reasonable and effective use of the SWLEOC resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director of the SWLEOC.
  • On commencement to ensure personal attendance at Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust's corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
  • To participate in Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
  • To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in patients under your care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
The proposed job plan for this post is attached. This will be discussed in detail with the post holder on appointment.

Job plans will be reviewed annually, following an appraisal meeting.

The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out the appointee typical working pattern, duties, objectives and responsibilities for the coming year.


On appointment of the post holder, the Anaesthetic Lead and the SWLEOC Medical Director will commence discussions to finalise the job plan which will become operational on appointment.

The job plan is an indicative plan of the duties the post holder is likely to be asked to undertake.

The job plan is likely to change and include evening and weekend working.

Additional programmed activities may be offered to the post holder.

Any offer of additional programmed activities will be based on the needs of the service and in line with the Trust objectives and will be reviewed on an annual basis.

Qualifications:


Essential criteria:


  • Hold a medical qualification or qualification registered with the GMC

Desirable criteria:


  • Entry onto the Specialist Register for GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT in Anaesthesia
  • MB BS or equivalent / FRCA or equivalent.
  • Further post graduate or undergraduate qualifications.
  • Academic distinctions or prizes
  • Specialist interest / experience in peri operative assessment and peri operative medicine

Personal:


Essential criteria:


  • Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good record of attendance
  • Commanding use of English language
  • Demonstrable leadership and organisational skills and initiator

Desirable criteria:


  • Evidence of team leadership
  • Evidence of initiation of a service
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
