We have a great opportunity for an Environment and Energy Lead that has become available in our Sustainability Team here at Avanti West Coast.


The Sustainability team is responsible for the implementation of Our Responsible Plan (Avanti¿s sustainability strategy), leading on the following agendas: environment, accessibility, community and social value.


The Environment and Energy Lead will lead West Coast Partnership¿s environment agenda as set out in Our Responsible Plan, responsible for delivery of West Coast Partnership¿s environmental legal and franchise commitments.

This includes ensuring we maintain our ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certified environmental management system and achieve the targets outlined in the West Coast Partnership¿s Franchise Agreement.

The Environment and Energy Lead will partner with internal and external stakeholders to drive behaviour and culture change to deliver the environmental agenda whilst identifying opportunities for new ways of working that differentiate us from our competitors to a standard that achieves our ambition to be a leader in this area in the Rail Industry.

A key purpose of the role is the leadership and management of the environment team (comprising of the Energy Solutions Manager:
the Waste and Circular Economy Manager; and the Environment Executive) to deliver a portfolio of colleague, customer, supplier and community environmental initiatives for West Coast Partnership to minimise our environmental impact whilst maximise our environmental opportunities.


Knowledge

  • A demonstrable background and expertise in management, measurement (monitoring and targeting approaches) and analysis of environmental impacts including carbon (especially setting and meeting SBTi¿s), energy, water, pollution, material use,
waste and biodiversity;

  • A track record of implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems to ISO 14001 and Energy Management Systems to ISO 50001 and achieving measurable improvements in performance.
  • Knowledge of environmental management in the rail industry desirable.

Skills

  • You will possess leadership skills in order to manage, motivate and develop the environment team
  • You will be selfmotivated in order to independently set, deliver and implement environmental strategies and actions.
  • You will have strong analytical skills to be able to gather, understand and present data (both quantitative and qualitative) in easily understood forms for colleagues without technical knowledge.
  • You will have the skills to develop strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure the continual development and prioritisation of the environment agenda.

Experience

  • You will have a demonstrable background and expertise in management, measurement (monitoring and targeting approaches) and analysis of environmental impacts including carbon, energy, water, pollution, material use, waste and biodiversity;
and have the skills to respond effectively to a range of competing requirements.

  • You will have a track record of implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems to ISO 14001 and Energy Management Systems to ISO 50001 and achieving measurable improvements in performance. You will have the
  • You will have experience of working in a complex and often pressurised environment, being able to successfully work to deadline and performance outcomes, and able to demonstrate experience within strategy and business plan development.
  • You will have experience of managing programmes, projects and multiple stakeholders and using excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills. You will have the ability to inspire and motivate people at all levels in the business

Qualifications Required

  • EMS internal auditor to ISO 14001 and 5000
  • Environmental Charter status (or actively working towards)
  • Member of IEMA or other equivalent environmental professional body
  • Member of CIBSE, Energy Institute or another appropriate professional body desirable
  • Energy and low carbon lead auditor or assessor status desirable
