The role will mainly be based in Trafford Town hall but there will be a requirement to occasionally travel to different offices in other local authorities in Greater Manchester.

Salary - £20,812 (Year 1) rising to £21,189 (Year 2)

Salary Grade - Band 1 (Year 1) rising to Band 2 (Year 2)


Working hours hours per week - You will have flexibility in terms of hybrid working at home and in the office.

Contract type - 2 Year training contract


About the role
Trafford Council is looking to recruit a Business Compliance Trainee to join its Regulatory Services teams. This will cover all aspects of Environmental Health (including food safety and health and safety), trading standards and licensing.


You'll work alongside our dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable trading standards, environmental health, and licensing officers at least two-days a week gaining valuable experience inspecting businesses, carrying out investigations, implementing and assisting with operational activities including underage sales and raids, and observing licensing hearings amongst many other varied and interesting duties.

You'll use your existing knowledge and experience gained from speaking to our GM businesses to create your own mini-projects to help businesses navigate complex legislation and regulations crucial for their growth.

Over the course of this two-year entry-level role, you will also undertake the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship.


This role is funded through the Government's Regulatory Pioneer Fund and as part of the scheme, the ten Greater Manchester Local Authorities are coming together to form a new Business Compliance Service that will offer businesses advice via a telephone service.

You will join nine other officers in each of the local authorities and co-locate with them at one of our Greater Manchester offices at least one-day per week in the brand-new Business Compliance Service.

This is a unique opportunity to help create and shape a fresh new service working across Greater Manchester to help businesses comply.
