We have a exciting vacancy for an Expert by Experience in our Forensic Healthcare services.

The role of Service user lead is an integral part of our leadership team ensuring that the 'patient voice' is heard and that we continue to work collaboratively and innovatively to improve the patient experience.

You will be working as part of a team of professional leads and operational managers to influence and achieve our participation strategy as well as other strategic objectives.

You will also be working closely with the Trust participation team.

The role will involve working with patients across our three inpatient services in East and West Sussex whilst also supporting our patients in the community.


  • Attendance and presenting at senior meetings.
  • Proactively working to ensure they are linked in with the existing service user/carer forums
  • Chairing of Patient focus groups
  • Representing the service both internal / externally
  • Attendance at Leadership Forums and to provide a specialist insight regarding patients and carers matters at these events
  • Provide a positive challenge to senior leaders in relation to service user and carer involvement
  • Working with service users/cares/local communities and build relationships
  • Providing support and reassurance to service users to enable them to contribute to service improvement
  • Providing and developing performance data that help convey the service user voice in a clear way
  • Developing systems and processes for enabling feedback from service users
  • Developing evidence base in relation to service user and carer feedback
  • Sharing findings of feedback at a senior level
  • Being part of or leading projects as agreed by the senior leadership team
The Forensic Healthcare Delivery Service works with Service Users who have been in contact with the criminal justice system. Forensic mental
healthcare requires a skilful and often innovative approach to the care of distressed and severely ill people; working with the most challenging
service users can also bring some of the greatest professional rewards. The concept of secure recovery underpins our services and our multi
disciplinary team strive to deliver excellent care.

  • To be a positive role model for other people overcoming mental health challenges, other workers and members of the public
  • To work effectively within a multidisciplinary setting, holding self and colleagues to account appropriately and demonstrating personal
commitment to leadership.

  • Achieve an agreed set of performance targets
  • Provide a service within the agreed financial resources and achieve all financial targets, including cost efficiency savings ensuring maximum value in terms of cost effectiveness.
  • To contribute in the planning and delivery of service objectives, managing specific change projects as required, ensuring customer
focus, consistency, quality, and cost effectiveness.

  • Support learning from complaints and communications, ensuring effective communication of recommendations and monitoring actions
to ensure they are fully implemented.

  • To promote and display via personal actions support for the Trust's key policies on Equality and Diversity, Exemplar Employer and use
of the recovery orientated approach for people with longer term problems

  • Deputise for colleagues as required
  • Develop good working relationship with service user and carer Governors and support them in their role as appropriate
  • Supporting the implementation of the Trust wide involvement strategy
