Description
We are looking for an experiencing practitioner with qualifications in at least one of the following areas:

  • Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)
  • Children Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP)
To join our fast-growing, fast-paced Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) across Mid & South Essex.


MHST's are a new service designed to support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties within education settings.

We are a multidisciplinary team made up of Children and Young People's Mental Health Practitioners and Education Mental Health Practitioners.

This post also attracts a one-off payment equivalent to 10% of annual basic salary.

This would be payable as 50% of the incentive as a lump sum at end of the probationary period (Typically six months) and then the other 50% of the incentive as a lump sum at the end of year two.


They will work in partnership with schools, children, young people, and families in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes.


They will be proficient in using Routine Outcome Measures (ROMS) and clinical tools to gather feedback and guide clinical practice, with opportunities for service provision planning and mapping with schools to inform the delivery of support to CYP.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,136 to a maximum of £1,915)

MHSTs aims to:


  • Support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems through evidencebased interventions
  • Support schools in developing their whole school approach to mental health
  • Provide timely advice to school staff and to liaise with other services to help children and young people get the right help and stay in education.
Mid & South Essex supports up to 104,000 young people across a variety of different education settings.


The Mid & South Essex MHST covers the following localities:

Mid Essex:
Braintree, Chelmsford & Maldon areas


South East Essex:
Canvey Island, Castle Point & Rochford and Southend areas


South West Essex:
Basildon & Thurrock areas. The South West locality has a high cost of living allowance of 5%.


The post holder will join established teams and will be supported to work alongside other EMHPs/CWPs in educational settings, as well as working alongside more Senior Mental Health Practitioners (SMHPs) to support learning and development.

There will be opportunities for individual work, group work and consultation.

Supervision will be delivered by senior practitioners individually and as a group in line NELFT policies and procedures.


The post holder will also be required to attend additional meetings as part of their role such as Team Business Meetings, Continual Professional Development and Group Safeguarding Supervision.
