Job summary:


We are recruiting a permanent Garrison Admin Officer (GAO) based in the Headquarters Tidworth, Netheravon and Bulford (TNB) Garrison Support Unit (GSU), located in Jellalabad Barracks, Tidworth.

The Garrison HQ is responsible for the delivery of Firm Base support to Tidworth, Netheravon and Bulford Garrison. The Garrison consists of 55 major and minor units with a service population of 9000 personnel.

Our mission is to conduct engagement, enable and assure the Firm Base and provide capability to the Joint Military Commander for UK Resilience in order to support the Armed Forces Recruitment, Retention, Relationships, Reputation and Resilience effort.

The HQ sits under and is co-located with HQ South West.

The 29 strong team consists of a balanced mix of Regular Army, FTRS, Reserves and civilian personnel crafting a diverse, experienced and innovated team.

Job description:

Management of Garrison Admin Office.

To co-ordinate, control and manage the delivery of personnel administration by the Garrison Support Unit (GSU) on behalf of all dependencies.


To provide efficient and effective Public and Non-Public Funds accounting services including the physical audit of the Public and Non-Public Funds.


  • Responsible for the leadership and efficient and effective management the GAO department and the technical competence and career management of AGC(SPS) and civilian personnel.
  • Ensure the staff support is efficient and meeting the Unit requirements.
  • Assume the roles of Unit Adjutant for G1 tasks when necessary, including role of Resettlement Officer.
  • Advise the CO on the execution of unit documentation and administrative policy which is to be implemented in accordance with MOD regulations and Departmental instructions.
  • Provide advice on pay, allowance, charges and noneffective benefits whilst ensuring that all military personnel administered by the GSU receive their correct entitlements in accordance with current regulations.
  • Advise on administrative and financial instructions in support of unit/group/individual deployments and consider submissions which are out with current regulations and require casework to the CoC for resolution.
  • Provide signposting for a range of Financial, Resettlement and Welfare counselling to all personnel.
  • Signpost personnel on where to obtain professional advice in respect of Insurance, Assurance, Savings, Taxation, House Purchase, Mortgages, Consumer Credit & Hire Purchase, and financial planning for Resettlement and Retirement. Offer detail of debt advice/counselling organisations.
  • Provide advice on the importance and purpose of a will and the availability of MOD related facilities.
  • Ensure that all Public and Service Non-Public Funds are maintained in accordance with current regulations and that mandatory safeguards are implemented. Ensuring that adequate security measures exist for the safeguarding of cash, cheque books and other financial instruments.
  • Advise the CO GSU, and other CO's from the dependency, on all matters relating to Service Funds for which they are accountable to the CoC and Charity Commissioners as Managing Trustees.
  • Carry out the audit duties of the Imprest Checking Officer and Internal Auditor in respect of the Regimental Accountant Scheme Non-Public Funds.
  • In accordance with the UAM conduct iexpense audits as generated by JPA and the additional audits the UMIR may suggest are appropriate.
  • Perform monthly management checks for all areas the GSU are responsible for.
  • Oversee the MS Matrix and ensure Reporting Officers are informed of any changes.
  • Line Management/RO and CSO responsibilities for HQ TNB GAO civilian staff.
  • Oversee the Unit establishment and management of the 8005 for HQ TNB and supported units.
