Old Swinford Services Ltd is seeking an experienced Gardener to ensure that their overall appearance of the school grounds is maintained to the highest standards.


Person Specification

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience;
  • A full, clean driving licence is essential;
  • All works must be carried out in a safe and responsible manner ensuring Health and Safety procedures are followed at all times;
  • Must be able to communicate confidently;
  • An eye for detail and accuracy;
  • A professional manner and appearance
  • Selfmotivated with a positive, professional attitude
  • Ability to work as part of a team yet also to work under own initiative;
  • Flexible approach and adaptable;
  • Ability to cope with the physical requirements of the job;
  • Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people.

Job Specification
The Gardener is responsible to the Site Manager and shall:

  • Carry out regular grass cutting on the school grounds including all sports pitches plus Treherns;
  • Maintain flowerbeds, boarders, hedges and trees on the school grounds;
  • Lay turf, fertilise, mass and weed kill, seed and top dress any grass area, as require;
  • All areas are to be clear of litter and leaves;
  • Marking out of all sport pitches;
  • Maintain and clean all outdoor sports areas;
  • Maintain and erect any outdoor sports equipment;;
  • Undertake cleaning of debris from gutters, drains and storm water drains;
  • Carry out a visual inspections all trees on the school property and report any that are in need of attention. Any trees that pose a danger to personnel or property must be reported immediately to the Site Manager.
  • Ensure that all equipment and materials are maintained and securely stored. Any defective or damaged equipment is to be reported to the Site Manager immediately;
  • During inclement weather clear snow and ice as directed by the Site Manager;
  • Report to the Site Manager any unstable surfaces or general deterioration around the grounds.
  • Undertake setting up of areas required to meet the needs of the school and for lettings as instructed by Site Manager;
  • Any other tasks that may from timetotime be reasonably required by the Headmaster, Bursar or Site Manager.

Hours & Remuneration of Work
This is a permanent, all year round position for 37 hours or part time hours would be considered.

The salary for full time hours will be £23,498 per annum

In line with current regulation you will, if you are eligible, be offered a workplace pension through NEST
