EDP Drug & Alcohol Services (EDP) are passionate about supporting individuals to reduce their substance use and live happier, healthier lives. We support people with multiple disadvantages, including substance misuse & mental health, as well as those who find themselves in the criminal justice system. Our services enable the people we support to improve their health, wellbeing and employability._

Due to an internal promotion, we currently have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Dorset substance misuse service as a Specialist Family Worker.

As a Specialist Family Worker, your focus will be on supporting families through a variety of bespoke interventions whilst assertively engaging the 'whole family' in a wide range of specialist and holistic community support and activities.

Your responsibilities will be very varied, but will include:

  • Managing a caseload of our service users and their families, providing regular support and offering a range of interventions
  • You'll contribute to a reduction in risk to children via early identification and assertive case management
  • Provide specialist training, advice and information to children and family workers to support identification and best practice when working with substance misusing parents.
This role can be challenging but is also incredibly rewarding.

You will be required to travel to meet with families and provide support, as well as working from our West Dorset hub, in Weymouth.

This position is available full time (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm).

The contract initially is on a fixed term basis or as a secondment for internal staff until the end of October 2023.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we offer the following great benefits to our staff:

  • Salary spot system, for the chance to
    enhance your pay annually:
-
Paid mileage for travel between hubs
-
Generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days annual leave, plus 8 days for bank holidays (rising to 30 with length of service)

-
Flexible working schedules:

-
Enhanced employer pension contribution

  • Life assurance benefit scheme
  • Support for your health and wellbeing with access to our
    Employee Assistance Programme,
    Free Headspace subscription and
    Eye Care Vouchers:
  • Cycle to Work Scheme

Who we are looking for

Most importantly, you will be someone with a positive recovery-focused attitude and a genuine interest in understanding substance misuse problems.

You'll be keen to develop professionally and thrive working autonomously in a range of environments.

In addition, you will also have:

  • Experience in a similar field, including working with families/carers and taking a holistic approach to recovery.
  • You'll be comfortable dealing with the emotional content of sessions and constructively challenging the behaviours you see.
  • Some knowledge and understanding of mental health issues and domestic violence would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills and will be confident in managing your own priorities
  • A qualification in a relevant area such as Nursing, Health and Social Care, Community Development or Psychology,
whilst not essential, would be an advantage.
