I am currently recruiting for a Trees and Woodland Officer to work on behalf of Doncaster Council.

You will be responsible for the development, management of strategies and innovative projects for the Tree and Woodland areas within Doncaster Borough linking with the Local Development Framework.

You will deliver a positive impact on the economic, socialand environmental well-being of the Tree and Woodland spaces within Doncaster, particularly relating to nature conservation and bio-diversity within the wider communities.


Duties will include:


  • Develop, implement and monitor a framework for the management and maintenance of the tree stock and woodland areas in Doncaster taking responsibility for allocated client groups, activities and transactions.
  • Provide professional and expert technical advice in relation to Tree and Woodland matters within Doncaster. Advise on the Council's procurement of Tree Stock and supply advice on wildlife issues in relation to Council operations.
  • Lead on any consultations and engagement activities with regard to the maintenance of tree stock, including decisions to remove trees or groups of trees.
  • Provide advice and guidance for users of woodland areas within Doncaster through personal contact, developing and promoting selfguided walks, trails, interpreted displays. Lead on events to promote nature and Doncaster's woodland areas, including deliveringschool visits, lectures, talks and developing interpretive materials.
  • Coordinate and monitor the improvement and maintenance of Woodland areas through development and delivery of procedures, strategies, promotion and funding initiatives. This will include the design and delivery of specific nature and biodiversity projects.
  • Develop effective partnerships to secure maximum additional resources to enhance and regenerate woodland areas across Doncaster. Managing contractors working on our woodland estate monitoring performance to ensure quality standards are reached.
  • Undertake Tree and Woodland research, investigations, assignments and site assessments to enable advice to be given to senior members of staff and external partners
  • Take an active role in the event of an emergency, providing support assistance and advice to the Emergency Planning team.

To be successful in this role you will have the below skills and experience:

  • Experience relating in Trees and Woodland management.
  • Knowledge of the main theoretical, procedural and practical issues relating to environmental and arboriculture management.
  • Experience of developing, leading and managing engagement and communication activities.
  • Experience of project management and a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Full Driving Licence
