An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to appoint a Band 6 practitioner within our Theatre Education and Development Team.

This post is working towards establishing a strong across town alliance as well as strengthening links with theatre procurement, the trust medical devices team and our associated HE providers.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual who is passionate about student development and education across the multi-disciplinary theatre team.

You will be a registered practitioner with up to date clinical credibility within the perioperative environment and have a good understanding of the work we undertake in supporting our, student Operating Department Practitioners (ODP's), Postgraduate student Anaesthetic Nurses, Undergraduate student nurses and other trainee roles.


You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and have a high level of self-management, including time management, prioritisation and organisational skills and the motivation to develop all grades of students clinically.

As a Band 6 Clinical educator you will also be required to develop and deliver education to our multidisciplinary workforce in theatres across both campuses.

Evidence of personal development will be required and evidence of further study at level 3 accreditation desirable (Degree level).

Evidence of teaching and mentoring is essential as the successful applicant will be involved in designing, delivering and assessing a varied educational program to students and qualified members of staff.


All persons appointed to the post are required to hold registration with their appropriate professional Regulatory Body (NMC/HCPC) and to comply with their professional code of conduct.

Evidence of on-going registration will be required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


Working with a vision of "delivering excellence in all everything we do", the post holder will be based within theatres and will be expected to work flexibly across campuses as required.


The post holder will be a proactive role model who leads in the clinical environment on the provision of clinical education and assessment of competence.


The post holder will:
Work alongside multi-disciplinary theatre staff and students to ensure the provision of high quality safe and effective evidence-based care; in accordance with local, divisional and hospital policies and procedures

Assist in identifying and defining areas for improvement and develop targeted teaching and learning activities to facilitate improvement

Develop and deliver training and educational programmes and optimise learning activities for practitioners

Ensure that the organisation has an accurate record of a practitioner's learning


Support multi-disciplinary theatre staff and students with education & development, to enable them to be safe practitioners and maintain patient safety standards.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of delivery of care in an Operating Department setting
Desirable criteria

  • Experience of Teaching within Theatres
Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current level 1 NMC Registration or HPC Registration Part 1
Desirable criteria

  • Posession of Mentoring Course
Communication

Essential criteria

  • Is able to effectively use a range of communication skills such as powerpoint, word excel documents, Outlook
Desirable criteria

  • Experience with Trust software including Bluespier.
Further Qualifications

  • Evidence of Teaching in a care setting.

The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
