Job description:


Public Spending Group


The Public Spending Group has a high-profile role in Government, setting the Government's overall spending plans and ensuring they deliver value for money for the taxpayer.

We are responsible for reporting to Parliament and the public on how taxpayers' money is spent.

We drive forward improved outcomes and efficiency in public services and enhance the value for money of decision-making through better evaluation, data and analysis.

We advise on overall government policy on public sector pay and pensions, the biggest single driver of public spending.

We collaborate with and directly support departments to deliver the Government Finance Function strategy, building finance capability across government and developing the management information, tools and frameworks to better understand and ensure value for money.


About the Team
The
Strategy, Engagement and Performance team is a dynamic, high-profile team at the heart of the Government Finance Function.

We lead on setting the strategy for the GFF, working with departments to ensure we focus on the things that really matter and to drive better outcomes across government.

We are also responsible for measuring and understanding performance across the function and for connecting over 10,000 finance employees by building a common identity.

The vision of the Government Finance Function is to put finance at the heart of decision-making, in order to deliver value for money and strengthen public trust.

It is at the forefront of the Government's functional agenda, building a broad and inclusive finance function that is breaking down silos, sharing the excellent best-practice that exists across Government, and establishing effective relationships with other functions.

We engage senior leaders from across the government finance to agree joined-up solutions through our central governance boards

Finance Leadership Group (FLG)

FLG is chaired by Cat Little, the Head of the Government Finance Function and Second Permanent Secretary to the Treasury.

It brings together Finance Directors and Finance Director Generals from across central government to discuss, debate and collaborate on the key finance challenges affecting multiple departments


Financial Strategy Board (FSB)
FSB is also chaired by Cat Little. This board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Government Finance Function and is accountable for achieving its vision across the function for the benefit of
