An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Mental Health Law to join the Trust in managing the Mental Health Legislation Team.


The post holder will lead on all aspects of the implementation and monitoring of Mental Health Law ( especially the Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 including the Liberty Protection Safeguards) ensuring adherence to legislation and following the Codes of Practice, DHSC policy and developing local procedures in response to them.


As well as direct management of a team of staff, the post holder will be regularly involved in complex case reviews/meetings and telephone consultations, providing expert advice around the development of plans of care to address complex issues.

They will also provide expert advice to local acute Trust providers with responsibility for detained and other patients, both in relation to the MHA and MCA and also around care planning and intervention management.


They will be based within the Nursing ( Clinical Effectiveness ) Directorate working closely with the Director of Nursing and Deputy Medical Director in supporting services and staff in our journey of change and the delivery of excellent care.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £3,898 and a maximum payment of £4,967 per annum pro rata).
