Job Introduction
Cannock Chase is a very large area of special natural habitats looked after by a range of organisations. Staffordshire County Council manages 1,300HA of Cannock Chase, including internationally important heathlands and ancient woodlands.

Cannock Chase also has an interesting historical heritage, in particular the vast training camps that were based her during The Great War.

You will be part of the team that look after Cannock Chase.

The Visitor Engagement Assistants working in the Marquis Drive Visitor Centre are key to communicating with the public about the site and generating income.


The working hours are 8am - 4pm, for this role 3 days a week, typically Sat, Sun, Mon but with 1 weekend off per month working the Wednesdays either side.

The role is fixed term till February 2025.

Main Responsibilities
Based in the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre on Marquis Drive, you will:

  • provide a warm welcome and relevant information to visitors to Cannock Chase
  • helping people get the most from their visit, whether it is through giving them maps of the site, information about why the site is special or hiring out accessibility trampers.
- be the face for Cannock Chase Country Park, taking enquiries and dealing with any concerns in the first instance.
- selling items in the the gift shop, cash handling and record keeping.
- organising and administration work is required, such as taking bookings for the rooms that we hire out and checking that they are ready for use.

Emergency First Aid at Work training would be an advantage for this role to deal with any small incidents.


Ideally you will:
- be friendly and outgoing with customer service experience.
- be positive, and have problem solving attitude
- have an interest in and knowledge of Cannock Chase.
- be able to inspire the public with how unique Cannock Chase is for wildlife and historical heritage.
- have the ability to work independently but also with another Visitor Engagement Assistant, volunteers and as a part of the wider Cannock Chase team.
