Background to the Role
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Commercial Function are responsible for delivering end-to-end commercial lifecycle management and supporting the wider business in working with third party suppliers.
Managing that expenditure well enables us to make it go further, with better outcomes, underpinning the delivery of our service to London and beyond.
The Commercial Services Function's ambition is to be the 'to be the most influential public sector commercial function in the UK' and is working to deliver the following strategic aims:- Maintain an ethical high performing commercial capability

The Commercial Services team is organised in a way to work in partnership with the different business areas across the MPS, providing excellent service to our internal customers and stakeholders.

This means that there are more opportunities for you to get involved with making London the safest global city in a time of unprecedented change within the UK's largest Police Service.
What does the average day look like?- Provide general administrative support to the teams delivering all aspects of the commercial lifecycle, including premarket engagement, contract award and management.
- Support the sourcing (buying) process for a wide range of procurements, such as market engagement, supporting negotiations and assessing procurement routes.
- Collate data relating to the team's contracts and procurements.
- Run low value procurements using commercial systems.
- Plan and deliver small commercial projects.
- Support the team with complex commercial projects, as required.
- Build an understanding of how social, economic and environmental factors are considered in procurement.
- Maintain routine catalogues within commercial systems to ensure they are up to date, liaising with colleagues as necessary.
- Undertake contract management actions such as contract administration, monitoring supplier performance and managing supplier relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant contracts.
- Provide commercial support and guidance to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyse data from corporate commercial systems to help identify trends/issues to drive value for money, efficiency and best practice opportunities.
- Arrange and coordinate meetings, including booking of meetings rooms and coordinating meeting agendas.
- Participate in meetings, take minutes and capture follow up actions with colleagues, stakeholders and suppliers.
- Manage stakeholder enquiries, feedback and complaints including liaison with suppliers and commercial colleagues.
Additional Information
You may in addition be required from time to time to undertake additional duties necessary to meet the needs of the MPS; such duties to be commensurate with the responsibilities of an apprenticeship post.
Please note that you may be required to travel across the Met Police estate to meet stakeholders or attend meetings.
