St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of 4 major trauma units in London and also one of the largest and busiest teaching hospitals in the United Kingdom, with around 1100 beds and 60 adult critical care beds.

St George's Hospital is the main teaching hospital in the western sector of South London and as such supports an extensive training programme for junior doctor


We are looking to recruit dynamic and committed individuals to join our Critical Care Teams on the General, Neuro and Cardiothoracic Units.

There are posts available for junior clinical fellows (FY2+) in Critical Care from May

  • August 2023 start
date for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extension. The three adult intensive care units at St Georges work closely together and therefore offer a unique opportunity to experience subspecialty and general intensive care medicine under one umbrella. Unit preference will be taken into account at interview; there will be the opportunity to rotate between the units.

Prior experience of the UK healthcare system is desirable, and GMC registration is essential.

GICU is a 21 bedded unit that provides care to a diverse group of patients including:

  • routine and emergency high risk surgical patients
- severe trauma patients
- a wide range of medical emergency patients

CTICU is a 21 bedded unit that provides care to a diverse group of patients including:

  • Elective and emergency cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgical cases
  • Cardiology patients requiring advanced organ monitoring and support
  • Patients presenting with acute severe respiratory failure
  • Patients presenting with out of hospital cardiac arrest
  • General intensive care patients
NITU is an 18-bedded unit that provides care primarily to neurosurgical and neurology patients including:

  • Elective and emergency neurosurgical cases.
  • Neurology patients with a variety of diagnoses requiring close monitoring and organ support
  • Stroke patients postthrombectomy and other high risk patients requiring interventional radiology
  • General intensive care patients
