A market-leading coatings development business based in Tonbridge is currently recruiting a Technical Manager to join its team on a permanent basis.

As Technical Manager, you will take responsibility for the development of new products and processes, whilsthaving the ability to lead & direct colleagues in the R&D department.


Technical Manager responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of new products and processes for the manufacturer of coatings.
  • Working with colleagues and customers to create new product constructions or types that increase the flexibility and range of products.
  • Improving the existing manufacturing processes through investigation of issues arising from customer feedback and complaints.
  • Evaluation of new and alternative raw materials to achieve product benefits such as cost savings, environmental or enhancements to safety.
  • Approval of raw materials
  • COSSH assessments


  • System management

  • ISO 9001 & ISO 18001

Technical Manager requirements

  • Degree level qualification in Chemistry or closely related.
  • Previous experience operating in an R&D/Formulation/Development role ideally working with either plastics, chemicals, coatings, or inks.
  • Experience managing teams and working with crossfunctional departments.


  • System management

  • Strong knowledge & background in chemical safety.
