This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a meaningful initiative that combines a passion for dogs, wildlife, and community engagement.

What's in it for you:

As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to promote positive engagement with local people around the breath-taking Poole Harbour.

This is a dynamic and fun-filled role where you'll connect with dog walkers and spread the word about our exciting campaign, 'Coastwise Canines.

Flexibility is a key aspect of this position, allowing you to enjoy a varied timetable. Embrace the freedom to work in different locations, experiencing the natural wonders and diversity of Poole Harbour first-hand.

What you can expect to be doing:

As part of our dedicated team, you'll collaborate closely with the Dorset Dogs and Bird And Recreation Initiative (BARI) teams.

Your primary focus will be engaging with site visitors, local communities, organisations, and dog owners across Poole Harbour, in a flexible and diverse manner.

Your mission will be to promote responsible dog ownership and minimise the adverse effects of dog disturbance on overwintering bird species and their habitats.

Poole Harbour is a remarkable natural feature, the second largest natural harbour globally, and designated as SSSI, RAMSAR, and SPA due to its vital wildlife and habitats.

It serves as a resource for local businesses, port activities, and a thriving community.

This partnership project, led by Urban Heath Partnerships on behalf of Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole (BCP) Council, offers you the opportunity to work across the partnership and contribute to the conservation of this magnificent area.

Your primary responsibility will involve engaging with the dog community, including individual dog owners, professional walkers, and clubs, promoting positive dog ownership in collaboration with BARI to ensure wildlife-friendly dog walking practices.

You possess excellent communication skills to engage members of the public effectively and inspire positive behaviour change. Your ability to connect with people will be crucial in promoting our mission.

You have a genuine love for nature and enjoy promoting wildlife conservation and the beauty of the countryside. Sharing this enthusiasm with others will be key in fostering a deeper appreciation for the environment.

You thrive in a small team environment and work collaboratively with your colleagues. Your ability to contribute to a positive and supportive team dynamic will be essential in achieving our shared goals.

You understand the importance of flexibility in this role and are available to work on some weekends. Your willingness to adapt to changing schedules and accommodate the needs of the job will contribute to our success.
