The Role


We are looking for a Freedom of Information Case Officer to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract within our Information Disclosure Team.


The Information Disclosure Team (IDT), based within the Operations Division, is responsible for a variety of high profile and public facing work including compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Data Protection Act (DPA) and certain other areas of information based activity such as compliance with the Environmental Information Regulations and the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations.

The team's role is crucial to the success of the relationship between the FCA, the public and the regulated community and you will have the opportunity to make a real contribution to this high profile area of compliance.


You will be working in a challenging and high-profile environment and work with a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to enhance and develop your skills and understand how the FCA approaches FoIA compliance and DPA requirements under GDPR.

What does the role involve?- Process ad hoc requests for information, known as 'right to know' requests, received under the Freedom of Information Act- Respond to requests for Witness Statements from law enforcement agencies- Maintain the FCA's FOIA Publication Scheme- Raising staff awareness of FOIA including providing relevant support, guidance and training to appointed contacts across the organisation- Help to develop and maintain the network of FOI contacts- Produce high quality ad hoc (oral and written) communications- Keep abreast of developments in the field of information access, receiving training and disseminating information as appropriate- Monitor relevant regulatory developments and notifying the business of changing requirements

Skills/Experience Required

Minimum- Strong writing skills- Experience of compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and the processing of FOIA Requests or similar compliance experience / case management

Essential- Very strong communication skills with the ability to deal confidently and effectively with a wide-range of staff and the general public Ability to make sound and reasoned judgments based on the information at your disposal

  • The ability to identify potential difficulties at an early stage and know when to consult or others, including lawyers and/or senior staff
  • Ability to constructively challenge staff at all levels in order to ensure compliance with legislation and/or achieve desired outcome
Desirable- FOIA qualification e.g. BCS Certificate in FOIA

The FCA has a national role and is committed to a national footprint. This role can be based in London, Leeds and Edinburgh. The FCA has London and National Pay ranges to reflect regional differences.

The base salary range for this role is up to £42,000 per annum in London and up to £40,000 per annum in Leeds and Edinburgh, plus an additional flexible allowance.
