The London Borough of Hackney is committed to ensuring people arriving in Hackney feel welcome and safe, and can access the support that is available.

Currently 800 people are seeking asylum in Hackney, around 650 of which are in contingency hotels managed by the Home office, as temporary accommodation while their claim for asylum is assessed.

This role sits within the newly created Refugee, Migrant and Asylum Seeker Service (RMAS). It will carry out project officer functions to support the work for Refugees, Migrants or Asylum Seekers. In the first year of this post, the main focus will be on the Asylum Seeker programme.

The purpose of the role will be to set up and manage services which ensure Asylum Seekers can access the support they need, as well as influencing systems to ensure services are available and accessible.

The role will identify any gaps in service provision, work with the voluntary and community sector and work towards creating a welcoming environment for Asylum Seekers.

This may include overseeing projects such as:
a migrant drop in hub, a community kitchen service, travel support initiatives and strengthening user engagement.

Skills & experience:

Strong project management, organised with excellent use of project plans proactive and work independently to ensure that key project milestones are completed on time and a high standard and projects are progressing within scope, time and resource constraints.
Strong stakeholder management, good at relationship building, cross sector working, influencing and working collaboratively.
Established experience of working with refugees, asylum seekers or migrants (people with lived experience are particularly welcome)
Solutions focussed with a cando approach. Proactively and independently finding solutions to barriers.
