Healthcare Assistant (Pre Assessment)

Plymouth Hospital | Permanent | Full time

Salary Competitive

Shifts will be working a 5 day week mainly Monday to Friday although flexibility to work Saturday and some evenings if required is essential


We are looking for a highly motivated experienced healthcare assistant to join our pre assessment team as part of Nuffield Plymouth Outpatient department.


In your role you will work closely with our highly experienced Pre assessment Nurses and ODP to assess patients in preparation for surgery at our hospital.


You will carry out clinical screening including taking baseline observations, MRSA/MSAA swabs and ECG's therefore, experience with these would be an advantage.

In addition you will also run your own clinics pre assessing patients for procedures carried out under local anaesthesia.


Good clear communication skills are essential as you will be talking to patients face to face as well as by telephone.


Skills required for this role:


  • ECG recording and demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Computer skills and professionalism in communicating
  • Be part of a closeknit team delivering matron led care in a consultant
- led service

  • Fully understand and support the needs of each patient and their family
  • Offer comfort and reassurance, providing the highest standards of care
  • Build your experience across new practices, equipment and facilities
  • Work with practitioners in other areas, understanding that continuity in
patient care is key

Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital


The Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital is situated next to the Nuffield Health Devonshire Gym, in Derriford, Plymouth and we have been part of the Plymouth community since 1971.

We have 3 main theatres - 2 laminar flow and 1 digital, a fully JAG accredited endoscopy suite, a 35-bedded ward with one 4 bedded bay and one 2 bedded bay.

Our outpatients department has 12 consulting rooms with a dedicated ophthalmology suite and ENT service.

We carry out treatment under a range of specialities including Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery. We recently were rated in the top 50 hospitals in the country for our total hip replacement patient outcomes.
