About the Role:


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cardiology GPwSI to take a lead role in our Community Services based at Saffron Walden Community Hospital.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a cardiology GPwSI to join Uttlesford Health within their existing Cardiology Service.


The post holder will be employed by Uttlesford Health Limited, who are committed to always delivering high quality patient care and provide care for patients referred via the electronic referral service.

They will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of community Cardiology care.


  • Hours to be discussed at interview, but we are happy to be flexible.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provision of clinical care and clinical administration for the management of a Cardiology caseload
  • Develop and sustain relationships with patients, carers and all members of the interdisciplinary team across care settings and traditional boundaries in order to maintain effective communication and exchange of information.
  • Conduct audits of clinical standards and contribute to the clinical management of the service
  • In partnership with the patient, agree a treatment plan in accordance with the diagnosis and prognosis of the condition
  • Triaging of new Cardiology referrals received by the service
  • Appropriately request, interpret and inform patients regarding investigation results and act appropriately when anomalies are discovered. This includes potentially lifethreatening abnormalities where immediate action should be taken
  • Actively participate in all aspects of the clinical governance process.
  • Ensure safe handover of care within and outside the organisation as appropriate
  • Undertake officebased consultation for scheduled consultations, as agreed with the post holder in accordance with their clinical skills.
  • Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidencebased practice.
  • Work directly with other members of the team and support integrated patient centred care through appropriate working with wider primary care / social care networks
  • Contribute to the organisations quality targets to consistently achieve high standards of safe, evidencebased, costeffective patient care and service delivery
  • Be aware of local Medicines Management and safety protocols and be willing to undertake training in the independent prescribing of medicines should legislation allow
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities for patients, colleagues and carers
  • Fully document all aspects of patient care and complete all required paperwork for legal and administrative purposes in accordance with relevant standards
  • Work in accordance with internal administrative systems relating to but not limited to the management of clinical data SystmOne (full training to be provided).
  • Send and receive written information on behalf of the practices relating to the physical and social welfare of patients seen

You will need the following skills and experience:

  • Primary Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Completion of higher specialist training in Cardiology
  • Full GMC registration & license to practice.
  • Experience with Echo's is desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrates ability to fulfil comprehensive general duties at GPwSI level. Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients and provide an expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.
  • Demonstrates a clear, logical approach to clinical problems and an appropriate level of clinical knowledge.
  • Portfolio of practical clinical experience, including evidence of ability to perform all common urology procedures.
  • Caring approach to patients
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of quality improvement and clinical governance within the NHS.
  • Demonstrates willingness to implement evidencebased practice.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with and understanding of NHS structures, management, and current political issues, including an awareness of national strategic plans and constraints.
  • Demonstrates willingness to lead clinical teams and develop an effective specialist clinical service. Evidence of effective personal contributions to clinical audit, governance, and risk reduction.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, relatives, colleagues, GPs, nurses, AHPs and outside agencies.
  • Ability to work with multiprofessional teams and to establish good professional relationships.
