An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Division of Medicine and Urgent Care for a Matron to work with the senior nursing and divisional team to deliver and support the newly launched Divisional People Plan.

Alongside this there will be a Governance and Risk element to the role which will involve working with the corporate governance structure to define our governance priorities and how these align with the people plan.


This role is a newly created and exciting role which will support the division in delivering a highly motivated and equipped work force to deliver outstanding, safe patient care.

The role will support wards and departments to become fully established and proactive in their approach to recruitment and retention and promote the quality and safety agenda within division by working closely with the central recruitment team, the Corporate Governance team and all teams within the division.

Predominantly based at Royal Stoke however this post requires cross -site working at our other site, County Hospital

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and passionate individual with previous senior leadership and management experience for this role.

Developing relationships with teams and individuals, not only within the division is going to be key in order to effectively deliver in this post.

The post holder will display high level communication and relationship skills, being able to negotiate with senior and junior team members and motivate, reassure and lead teams in a positive way and manner and at all times.

Ensure that human resources are efficiently deployed within identified areas and to be responsible for recruitment and retention within designated areas of responsibility; assisting and supporting teams with local recruitment, development of skills and undertaking and supporting with workforce reviews

To work closely with partner organisations to ensure high quality delivery of services.


In conjunction with the relevant HR staff, develop and support strategies to ensure the teams achieve a workforce capable of delivering quality recovery focused services and that the workforce is competent, confident and safe in the delivery of patient/service user treatment options in order to maximize recovery outcomes.


In conjunction with the Corporate Governance Manager for the division review and monitor all aspects of clinical governance and risk and support the divisional teams in timely delivery/adherence to the governance agenda.


In conjunction with the relevant HR staff and divisional teams develop strategies to accurately report vacancies and recruitment processes within in medicine and develop and support the delivery of retention plans for clinical areas.


To work with senior clinical staff to ensure risk assessments and management plans are in place and up to date.


To work with corporate governance and divisional teams to ensure divisional governance is fully adhered to across the division and monitor associated KPI's.

Monitor incidents, themes and lessons learned, share learning across the division.


In conjunction with the relevant HR staff and divisional teams develop strategies to accurately report vacancies and recruitment processes within in medicine and develop and support the delivery of retention plans for clinical areas.

Produce papers for relevant committees and meetings.

Promote staff wellbeing and staff experience and work with People Team to implement the People Plan.

Plan and organize recruitment, new starter events with relevant others
