New Holland Dock Wharfingers Limited, part of the Howarth Timber Group, is a progressive and expanding company within a busy port and shipping-related environment situated on the South bank of the Humber estuary.

Purpose of the role


This role focuses on providing a first-class service for our customers but is not limited to, timber treatment the handling and transportation of freight goods on/off vessels, lorries and to/from storage areas, other operations such as de-stuffing of containers, unloading of engineered timber goods from road vehicles and yard/warehouse operations etc.

The Operative role will cover a 2 shift pattern , which will be managed on a rota basis.

The salary is £10.43 per hour Mon-Fri with overtime rates 1.5x and 2.0x for additional hours and weekends.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To operate all plant and/or equipment correctly, reporting any defects.
  • To maintain stock information accurately when carrying out operations using written and verbal methods for recording stock movements.
  • Responsible for carrying out and record preshift plant/equipment checks.
  • To maintain good communications between other Terminal staff at all times, ensuring issues can be dealt with promptly.
  • Must comply with all site safety procedures and requirements at all times.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment, observing good housekeeping and work in accordance with the Company's H&S policies at all times.
  • Liaise with the appropriate Supervisor to ensure the delivery of all tasks are carried safely and react to operational instructions as may be required to expedite any changes during the working shift.
  • Assist in miscellaneous duties in other areas, some of which may be of a manual handling nature, working at height and work of a physical nature.
  • Responsible for maintaining a flexible approach to working hours, be prepared to work various work patterns including extended work hours paid/unpaid and weekend work to meet the needs of the business.


The above list of duties is not exhaustive and you may be required to undertake any other duties as and when required by Management.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience


Essential:

  • Previous experience within a manual based role.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must be flexible towards working hours.
  • Ability to adhere to strict customer and manufacturer requirements on both quality and safety.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace.

Desirable:

  • Previous knowledge/experience of handling timber a distinct advantage.
  • Previous knowledge/experience of treatment plants (desirable but training will be provided)
  • Current licence to drive a forklift, sideloader, tug master or similar heavy plant & equipment (desirable but training can be provided)
  • Full UK driving licence or working towards gaining a licence would be a distinct advantage.
  • GCSE English and Maths
