Purpose of role


As Head of Design, you will responsible and working closely with the Directors and management teams to ensure current procedures and processes are followed and updated accordingly to achieve shareholders and business targets within these areas under your responsibility.

Your ability to ensure continuous development remain on track and continue to develop and adapt the business changes is critical.

The purpose of this role is to drive a step change improvement in design performance which will deliver the levels of yield and quality necessary to meet our customers' expectations and support the Company's strategic plan and manufacturing strategy of On Time In Full (OTIF).

Key to this will be improving the competency and discipline of the team and the standardisation of current processes to reflect industry best practice through Best Quality - Lowest Total Cost - Shortest Lead Time - High Morale and optimising production flow by eliminating waste.

The focus on New and Updating current product development, considering competition and technologic advancements is vital.


Role and responsibilities;

  • Produce, outline and detail drawings to a high standard using AutoCAD
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset to deepen competitiveness through strategic alignment of goals and actions, always learning and improving.
  • Ensures compliance with Health & Safety Regulations of team members, maintaining their awareness through regular communication. Ensures relevant risk assessments are in place where necessary and regularly reviewed. reducing risks by creating better, safer working conditions, breading a culture that Safety Starts With Me.
  • Embody our Business Values to help create a strong and sustainable company culture.
  • Ensure skill gaps are measured and risks controlled, to safeguard our capabilities to constantly meet Business Revenue Targets.
  • Produce and Deliver Monthly Performance KPI report for your areas at Senior Level with visibility of related Critical Development Plans.
  • Ensure your management team can effectively run the daytoday operation of your Departments to consistently deliver on internal and external KPI's
  • Responsible for manpower and succession planning to build an effective team of Leaders, capable of ensuring employee discipline is maintained and procedures are followed consistently.
  • Ensures your Management team are appropriately trained to carry out their role effectively and developed to ensure consistent delivery of the required Performance, using your Competency tool, CAP's, InVESt, HiPo & Personal Development Plans.
  • Deliver regular (at least monthly) team briefings, so all staff are clear on Company Strategy, Objectives, Performance and Priorities. Encourages a culture of continuous improvement and information sharing, encouraging team to raise new ideas.
  • Ensure recruitment and onboarding plans are managed effectively, to allow all new employees to meet their efficiency expectations in agreed time frames, as per training programmes.
  • Ensure VE (value engineering) is carried out where every possible, without compromising quality or specification.
  • Ensure new technology offerings are reviewed and implemented, if deemed to support the business
  • Act as the Technical Authority for Design. Even if you are not the expert you will be the central point of contact and authority figure, and pull together any necessary expertise from around the company or external suppliers.
  • Integrate the design and development activities and future project requirements into Business Operations, specifically all core main business functions and senior management staff responsible for operational, production, and services areas.
  • Understand specific influences and trends, reporting on the forces that shift tactics, actions and strategic directions of design and development projects.
  • To ensure as far as is reasonably practicable that VES complies with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate by your Line Director and the Board

Salary:
£47,475.00-£68,575.00 per year
