Overview

  • Overview of the Data Analytics Group at Bangor Business School_
Bangor Business School offers a research-led Business Data Analytics programme at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Data Analytics group within the School provides the core teaching on these programmes and well as manages the Trading Room including the promotion of the use of Bloomberg, R and Python.

All members of the group contribute towards the teaching of core analytics modules, but will also have the opportunity to teach to their main interests on future specialist modules.

We have a strong and sustained track-record in developing newly qualified PhDs into successful academics.

Purpose of the Job

  • To deliver quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels which engages students.
  • To conduct research of an international standard in a relevant field, with substantial evidence of quality and international peer recognition.
  • To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including supervision of projects.
  • To perform administrative tasks effectively as designated by the Head of School.
  • To engage in grant capture activities and contribute significantly to national and international networks.
  • To engage with local government and other organisations on issues relating to data analytics.
Main


Responsibilities:


Teaching duties will include:

  • Establishing a record of teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lectures and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes including delivery of quality modules that attract, engage and retain students;
  • Motivating students to proactively engage in learning, and providing meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work within agreed time constraints;
  • Examining and supervising/cosupervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments;
  • Ensuring that all students are provided with a supportive learning environment and providing advice and guidance to individual students as their personal tutor;
  • Participating in Quality Enhancement procedures;
  • Contributing to the teaching and assessment of the School's portfolio of modules and programmes at various levels according to the needs of the School, including designing, developing and delivering a range of teaching materials for study at various levels;
  • Relating, wherever possible and practicable, teaching to the surrounding area by using the local environment to engage students;
  • Building links with external agencies to provide work experience for students that could lead towards them gaining an additional professionally recognised qualification

Research duties will include:

  • Personal research, and/or collaborative research with colleagues in the School or across the College / University;
  • Managing one's own research projects, with an emphasis on research output of a quality and quantity to contribute positively to the esteem and resources generated by the Research Excellence Framework;
  • Contributing to the research environment of the School through publication, conference contributions, research seminars and other research activities;
  • Contributing to research groups / networks internally or externally to the School and / or University;
  • Contributing towards an Impact Case study;
  • Supervision of research students;
  • Engaging in scholarly and other relevant professional activities.
  • Engaging/ leading grant capture activities and contributing towards the School's capability to attract external research funding;
  • Liaising with national research bodies to identify future research requirements;
  • Generating impact of scholarly activity beyond academia

Administrative duties will include:

  • Participating in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School;
  • Contributing to the School's management, and participating in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes e.g. acting as director for a group of postgraduate taught programmes;
  • Leading a significant area of the School's activity e.g. acting as programme director for a set of postgraduate taught programmes.
  • Contributing to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives;
  • Contributing to the promotion and external profile of the School.
  • Taking responsibility for specific modules as appropriate, working towards ensuring optimum module evaluation results;
