Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Research & Evaluation at Porton Down, Salisbury for the role of an administrative apprentice as part of the Admin Team supporting the department.
The Admin Team are part of the wider Operations Team who support and facilitate the efficient running of the wider Research and Evaluation (R&E) department at UKHSA Porton.
Through close interaction with Scientific staff and supporting UKHSA functions such as Safety, Quality, Commercial, Finance, Estates and Engineering, the team ensure the department has the resources and systems in place to allow delivery of high-quality scientific data.

Porton Down, Salisbury (on site)
- Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available.
The job purpose is to work collaboratively with all members of Research to provide an accurate and effective administrative support service to the functions of the department.
- To learn the admin supporting duties to include minute taking, meeting preparation, diary management and the preparation of official documents.
- To contribute to office cover during absence of other administrative team members, where appropriate to the post holder's grade.
- To undertake general office duties as necessary, i.e. photocopying, faxing, post, hospitality duties. Arrange travel and hotel bookings in line with UKHSA policies and procedures.
The post holder will be trained and developed in the areas of administration to allow them to deliver support in:
- Providing flexible departmental support in-line with emerging priorities/challenges and during periods of capacity pressure.
- Delivering a professional and friendly front of house service for the department which may involve meeting and greeting visitors to the building/site.
- Dedicate 20% of your working week to completing the Level 3 Business Administration qualification

UKEssential Criteria:
- Good standard of education, minimum of four GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent demonstrable experience in a relevant role.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office software e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience of delivering good quality telephone skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to record accurate messages.
- Excellent keyboard skills, ability to input data accurately and good attention to detail.
- Flexible approach to role, commitment and ability to learn new skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- General administrative experience.
- Experience of database entry work.
- Knowledge and understanding of good customer care.
- Basic understanding of Data Protection legislation.
- Experience of reception duties.
STAGE - APPLICATION & SIFT:
If you are successful at this stage, you will progress to a face-to-face interview based at UKHSA Porton Down, Salisbury.
