This is an opportunity for a skilled and experienced counsellor who has experience in managing services to join our team.

You will be responsible for managing and working alongside the Cancer and Psychological Support Service and Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service; both services have a vital role supporting people, their families and carers who have been affected by cancer.


The post will be based within Carmarthenshire, however you will need to be willing to travel to other sites across the Health Board within all the three counties of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.


The applicant will require experience in counselling cancer patients, their families and carers, and or experience managing specialist cancer services.

You will need to demonstrate an ability to work autonomously, working within community and clinical settings and be established at homeworking.


The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Cancer and Psychological Support Service and Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service, managing and supporting a team of professionals.

Overseeing the delivery of psychological support and advice given to patients, their families and carers across the three counties within Hywel Dda University Health Board.

You may be required to conduct assessments and provide one to one counselling support, alongside facilitating group work.

You will be responsible for providing a high level of supervision and caseload management, ensuring and supporting staff wellbeing in light of the complexities of supporting patients, families and their carers through their cancer journey.

Attend supervision in accordance with Health Board policy and procedure, and in line with the BACP.

An essential aspect of the role requires you work alongside and in partnership with other healthcare professionals and cancer services.

This role requires a high degree of autonomous working. We offer flexible working arrangements in return for your flexibility in meeting service need. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
