Description
To deliver manual handling training courses for clinical and non-clinical staff. This will include underpinning knowledge and practical skill demonstrations. Training may be delivered in the designated MH Training venues or within the work place.

To maintain a clean, safe and tidy classroom environment that creates an effective learning environment which is free of hazards and ensuring that all guidelines relating to infection prevention are maintained.

Ensure that all information required to support a training event is prepared and in place for attendees. This will include information handouts, signing in sheet, evaluation questionnaires and certificate of attendance. Review and collate the training evaluation feedback for review by the Manual Handling Team Leader.

Receive and check the Level 1 Manual Handling Questionnaires and return those checked questionnaires to Organisational Development for updating on ESR.


Assist the Manual Handling Team Leader with a workforce Training Needs Analysis escalating any concerns regarding capacity against the agreed plan.

Assist the Manual Handling Team Leader in regularly reviewing and updating training materials taking evaluation feedback into consideration, amending as indicated by evidence, research and best practice.

Maintain inventory of equipment, stocks and consumables required for course delivery.

Provide a point of contact for all wards and departments for advice, support and guidance regarding manual handling concerns or issues.


Assist in the provision of advice to support the safe handling of patients with complex handling requirements, taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender, cultural background and preferences of the individual, making recommendations including identification of specialist equipment where necessary to keep staff and patients safe working as part of the MDT fostering effective professional relationships to ensure effective communication.

Escalate any concerns raised by health care worker in regard to complex handling risk to the Manual Handling Team Leader.

Contribute to the procurement process for manual handling or other equipment such as bed, trolleys or theatre tables. Provide advice for staff who require DSE assessment escalating complex cases to the Manual Handling Team Leader.


Utilise interpersonal and communication skills in order to convey information with empathy and reassurance, overcoming barriers to understanding where necessary.

Provide appropriate written information to support any verbal advice given.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the different roles in the multi-disciplinary team and the process for escalation of concerns or queries.

Participate in audit activity as directed by the Manual Handling Team Leader ensuring any allocated activities are completed on time and returned to the Manual handling Team leader for analysis.


Practices within the Trust policies and procedures and makes a positive contribution to the development and review of Trust policies and protocols in relation to manual handling and reducing the incidence of musculoskeletal ill health.
