This role will require a highly motivated individual who is able to prioritise and manage their workload in an effective manner to ensure work is completed within agreed timescales.

The ability to communicate with staff at various levels will be an essential skill required for this role.

We have a rare and exciting new opportunity to join our Facilities Services team as a Cleanliness Audit & Monitoring Officer.

One of the roles will be based at Grimsby.


In accordance with the New National Standards of Healthcare, you will conduct hospital cleanliness audits within clinical and non-clinical areas at Scunthorpe General Hospital or Dianna Princess of Wales Hospital (Grimsby).

You will promote safe standards of cleanliness, compliance and encourage quality improvements where identified. These audits are computer based and will generate a Star Rating of between 1 and 5 Stars. We are recruiting roles to be based on each site.


Normal working hours will be made up of a combination of:06-00hrs - 1400hrs & 0800hrs - 1600hrs Monday to Friday.

  • Proactively monitor cleanliness standards in all relevant areas. Communicating as appropriate with the local client, staff, supervisors and management.
  • Plan, coordinate and undertake monitoring visits on behalf of the HSA and Catering Services department, liaising as appropriate with Nursing staff, Ward Managers and HSA Supervisors.
  • Conduct patient and ward based surveys to monitor the quality of linen services, patient catering and other Facilities services as required.
  • Utilise the electronic hand held monitoring system, downloading and interpreting data as necessary. Producing detailed reports in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with Trust policy and instructions.
  • Prioritise workload to maximise the provision of an effective monitoring service.
  • Monitor the external condition and cleanliness of buildings including elements such as windows, litter and general maintenance issues.
  • Respond appropriately to any identified service issues or problems initiating rectification procedures as appropriate.
  • Be conversant with, and have an understanding of any relevant national standards and requirements as characterised by the NHS England
  • National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, the NHS Cleaning Manual and the PLACE process.
  • Collate data from the HSA audits, the kitchen audits and the PLACE Lite audits to create the quarterly reports for presentation at the quarterly Infection Prevention and Control Committee Meetings.
  • Act as trainer for HSA Services in the delivery of cleaning principles in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, providing training for new and existing staff.
  • Maintain an annual training schedule for HSA staff on the cleaning principles, maintaining records of training plans, attendance records and refresher training.
  • Where appropriate, act as trainer for the support and/or delivery of mandatory training for HSA staff, delivering one to one training or in small groups, both verbally and electronically.
  • Provide monthly updates to the Facilities Services Manager on training undertaken and planned programme of works for every quarter to give assurance that mandatory training compliance will be achieved.
  • Responsible for cataloguing and keeping the MiC4C / Micad system up to date in terms of monitoring. Interpret, and contribute to the development of relevant local procedures to ensure the provision of a high quality service. Suggesting changes to policies where appropriate to do so.
