Compliance, HR and Payroll Officer
Compliance Officer, Waste Innovation Station Headquarters (WISH)
Reports to WISH Program Manager and Lead Coordinator
Part time:
£16 per hour, up to 20 hours per week for five years
OVERVIEW
The postholder assesses risk and ensures compliance for all WISH and general Cherwell Collective operations. This officer scopes new locations with the Lead Coordinator.
The postholder also oversees Human Relations and liaises with members of the team as necessary to identify training and development needs, assess performance, and audit impact metrics.
Responsibilities and duties
- Update risk assessments for all operations
- Oversee staff recruitment, onboarding, development, grievances elevated from HR admin
- Perform quarterly reviews of internal paperwork and staff performance
- Oversee annual internal audits of reports, deliverables, finances and records
- Scope new locations for expansion with Lead Coordinator
- Monthly payroll, leave, and benefits processing
- Act as a credible and honest representative of Cherwell Collective and WISH as needed
Essential Skills
Proficiency in Google Suite (sheets, forms, docs, gmail, etc) or Microsoft equivalent
Willingness to further train as needed (skills, software, and regulations)
Ability to work independently as well as with others.
Organized, good problem solving and time management skills, good oral and written communication skills.
Previous experience in surplus distribution (e.g. volunteering or working at Oxford Food Hub, Agrivert or similar)
Desired Qualities
Previous team management experience
Understanding of confidentiality laws and GDPR guidelines.
Proficiency in Xero.
Familiarity with employment law and HR principles
Gardening experience (i.e. growing food at home, working on a farm, volunteering at orchards)

30 days:

Each month you will be expected to remind staff to fill in time sheets, approve timesheets, approve holiday leave, process any benefits, and run payroll including filling in supporting documents.
This process will be done alongside Lead Coordinator and will take at least 5 hours in the first month but can be done independently thereafter in 2-3 hours per month.
90 days:
- WISH Staff Reviews_
This process is simply reading through the job description and coming to an understanding of how to better utilize staff strengths, whether additional support is needed, and go over holiday upcoming and other benefits as needed.
- WISH Paperwork Reviews_
We need reviews of internal paperwork like employee handbooks, policy documents, risk assessments, done quarterly to make sure they do not become too outdated.
180 days:
- Assessment_

By this time we should have an expansion plan drafted for approval by partners and board, and have identified any potential concerns or risks with each desired location.
