Description
We are looking for a Locum Consultant Anaesthetics on a fixed term full time basis at Broomfield Hospital.


The Department of Anaesthetics provides anaesthetics, pain services, pre-operative preparation and emergency services to Broomfield Hospital as part of the Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust.

The Department is part of the Division of Anaesthetics and Theatres and has one Clinical Director and Trust-wide leads in Pre Assessment and Pain.

Lists also occur at the Braintree Community Hospital which is a standalone elective, Orthopaedic site.


There is a strong history of excellence in anaesthetic education at Broomfield and we have links to the School of Medicine at the nearby Anglia Ruskin University including Honorary Senior Lecturers.

There are national courses organised under the auspices of ARU by our consultants.


Broomfield has all major District General services as well as being the hub for inpatient ENT patients, an upper GI cancer service and the regional Burns and Plastics Centre including paediatrics.

There are a high number of regional techniques used and we have a Regional Anaesthesia Fellow as well as a Fellow in High Risk Anaesthesia and Enhanced Recovery and in Pain services.

The Department is supported by 2 Administrative Assistants and there is modern office space for all consultants.

The Department follows the Good Practice Guidelines from the Royal College of Anaesthetists and all Consultants are expected to work towards those.


To provide, with Consultant colleagues, a modern and comprehensive Anaesthetic, Pain and Perioperative Medicine service to Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

Successful applicants will be expected to integrate within and support all the current activities of the department.

Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.

Any responsibility, which relates to a specialist interest.

Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.


Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, both locally and nationally.
