We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Team Leader to join the Paediatric Ophthalmology admin team at Evelina London.

This post requires excellent supervision and operational skills, with a proactive and flexible approach.

With the support of the Assistant Service Manager, this role will act as a key point of contact for the administrative and clinical teams in the management of inpatient and outpatient activity and co-ordination.


Your role will be to ensure the integration of clinics in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.

Initiative and independent judgement are essential, as you will need to make decisions to facilitate the smooth running of the service.


You will be required to working closely with the Assistant Service Manager, clinicians, managers and other staff across the Trust.

You will provide leadership and advice to your team to help deliver high standards of care and quality, patient-centred service with an ethos around continuous improvement.


You will be self-motivated, able to work autonomously at pace and be effective in managing your time, workload and priorities.

You will be focused on outcomes and motivated to deliver the highest quality care while ensuring the best possible patient experience.

The Evelina London Children's Hospital is a purpose-built Children's hospital opened in 2005, bringing together existing Children's services at St Thomas' and Guy's Hospitals onto one site.

As part of King's Health Partners, we are now one of the UK's first Academic Health Sciences Centres aiming to bring together world class teaching, research and clinical services.

Evelina London Children's Healthcare (ELCH) comprises four directorates of GSTT and, along with Women's Services, functions as the Evelina London Women and Children's Clinical Group under the umbrella of GSTT.

This enables ELCH to provide dedicated children's services and develop its own distinct identity whilst enjoying the support and shared assets of a very large, well-resourced trust.

As part of King's Health Partners, ELCH is now one of the UK's Academic Health Sciences Centres, aiming to bring together world class teaching, research and clinical services.


ELCH has over 150 in-patient beds plus a further 46 neonatal cots in the North Wing adjacent to maternity services, all based on the St Thomas' Hospital site.

As well as serving a local population of children living in the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, the Evelina offers specialist care for children from across South-East England and further afield, including overseas.

Staff Management

Responsible for the day to day management of the team and ensure that that staff are managed in line with Trust Policies

Provide leadership to the team acting as a positive role model at all times.

To recruit, induct, develop and support the team delivering the required services.


To supervise the workload of the team, allocating team members to optimise service provision and administrative support across the hours of the service.


Review and report on staff performance, working with individuals to set clear standards and objectives, identifying training and development needs as well as performance/conduct issues as appropriate.


Motivate and support staff so that they understand the objectives of the service within which they work and are able to maximise their contribution to the highest standard of patient care.


Log all staff requests for Annual leave or special leave with the Supervisor/Manager, first checking the rota's to ensure they are adequately covered.

Responsible for updating Mandatory Training records for all staff and ensure staff complete their training in a timely manner.

Ensure that the Trust's HR policies are adhered to within the department.

Operational Management


Administer the daily running of the service including dealing with any problems as and when they arise ensuring appropriate solutions are put in place.

To ensure resolution of enquiries, complaints and request for services at the earliest possible opportunity. Carry out investigations where required to resolve service issues and to identify areas for improvement.

Create and maintain appropriate rotas to ensure that the service is fully covered and maintained.

Undertake any administrative tasks and other duties as appropriate.


To ensure that the team follows established procedures for each service request, including logging, processing and progress chasing enquiries, adhering to agreed Key Performance Indicators, Service Level Agreements and quality standards to maximise customer satisfaction.
