    Job description:

This is a really exciting time to join the MMO as we become an independent coastal state, embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment.

The Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Estates Officer supports the HSW Lead in ensuring all MMO activities are conducted in a safety compliant manner and helps to foster an organisation-wide HSW culture.

Job description


Key tasks, accountabilities and responsibilities

  • To attend, minute and support meetings with the health safety wellbeing and estates lead.
  • Develop and manage health safety and wellbeing related documentation.
  • To participate in safety studies, gathering and collating all the information for the creation of reports under the guidance of the health safety wellbeing and estates lead.
  • To undertake and document internal audits to ISO standards.
  • Investigate Near Miss, Accident, and Incidents, producing root cause analysisbased reports and action follow up.
  • Provide health, safety, and environmental guidance to all levels of colleagues ensure current and best practise standards are met.
  • Develop and review new policies and procedures to maintain or meet new legislative requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain KPI performance data for the business as well as their own personal targets and KPIs.
  • Prepare board of director updates.
  • Review/Develop Risk Assessments/Method Statements.
  • Must be able to travel to coastal offices and have overnight stays away from contracted office location on a monthly basis.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and other Defra group partners.
  • Support MMO estates with facility related issues regarding health safety and welfare, act as a liaison between Defra facilities and MMO estates representatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Essential

  • Ability to structure and analyse information to generate reports.
  • Good proficiency in excel, sharepoint, word, power point, Viva or other communication platforms, online conference platforms.
  • Experience supporting audits/compliance/management system documentation.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge effectively.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a Health, Safety and Wellbeing role.
  • Root cause analysis experience and strong attention to detail
  • Hold practical experience auditing and managing compliance to any of the following standard's ISO 9001, 18001, 14001, 4500
  • Have strong documentation skills and the ability to transfer knowledge effectively.
  • Be collaborative by nature and able to engage the entire team.
  • Knowledge of assessing and mitigating risk and providing sound advice to the business of conducting accident investigations and managing external bodies.

Qualifications Required

Essential

  • NEBOSH accredited
  • Internal Audit qualified.
  • Qualified trainer including A1 qualification (or willing to work towards)
