West Lancashire Borough Council own and manage circa 6,500 homes across the Skelmersdale and Ormskirk areas including 400 communal blocks.

The Property Services Team manage the repair and maintenance of those homes; ensuring they are safe, warm and well maintained.


In April 2023 the Council entered into a new Fire Risk Assessment contract and require a qualified surveyor to support the FRA process.

This will also include the development of programmes of passive fire works and the monitoring and updating of fire risk actions.


As we begin to deliver that customer focused service an opportunity has arisen to join the Property Services Team, as a Fire Safety Surveyor within the Compliance Team.

The key areas the post will be focusing on are:

Ensure the timely delivery of fire risk actions ensuring current policies and procedures are followed;
Use established key performance indicators to drive efficiencies, and monitor contractor performance to continually improve service delivery;
Operate within an assigned budget and deliver agreed financial and operational targets;

Work closely with stakeholders, Property Services, Housing, Investment and Asset Management to ensure that the fire risk actions seamlessly supports an effective and coherent approach to statutory compliance, with particular emphasis on the management of fire safety and associated compliance works such as electrical safety, asbestos, lifting equipment and the planning of future capital investment programmes to ensure we are investing in the right homes at the right time.


Working with customers to capture their views; ensuring the service is customer focused and that customer feedback is used to continuously improve the service.


You will need to be a team player with proven experience in working in a fast paced environment, you will need to be customer focused to deliver a front line service, that is open to implementing new ways of working, and be solution focused to develop and maintain the Property Services Team into a customer focused, 'right first time' service provider.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo security checks as part of the Baseline Personnel Security Standard for accessing Government records.

This will include a Basic DBS check.
