Wrightington Wigan and Leigh are seeking to recruit Junior Clinical Fellow Doctors with the Division of Medicine. We have several posts available from August 23- August 24.

The posts are rotational rotating through three, 3-month blocks within the Medicine Division.

Including areas such as Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, SDEC, Gastro, Cardiology, Respiratory, Diabetes & Endocrinology and Care of the Elderly.

Completion of F1 training is essential, the posts are aimed at doctors between F2-ST2 level.


The Trust has a proven record of supporting Clinical Fellow Doctors in securing training grade positions following this 12-month position.

There is access to Education & Training and the opportunity to get involved with audits supported by a clinical supervisor which will be allocated upon appointment.

If your career choice is not to pursue a training grade post, then there are internal opportunities for career progression to Clinical Fellow posts at ST3+ level within certain areas.


The role will be entirely ward based work, providing support with day to day inpatient management, such as morning ward rounds, assessment of patients admitted in the afternoons and performing of inpatient procedures, as required.

The role will include the teaching, supervision and support of the already establish FY1 junior doctors. The role does not have any requirements for on calls, however there will be opportunities available to do ad-hoc on calls if desired, as per rota gaps


If you are rotating into A&E, you would be required to work out of hours including evenings and weekends plus on calls and paid accordingly during this rotation.

On-Call


Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.


  • Supervision of FY1 team, relating to the treatment of patients.
  • The management and care of inpatients admitted on the ward. It is expected that such work will be carried out to the highest clinical standards at all times and in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various clinical policies of the Service.
  • Arranging and performing of any investigations required, where applicable, and the taking of appropriate action in accordance with the results of these investigations.
  • Transmission of relevant clinical information on patients to other medical, technical and nursing staff either within the within or outside of the Trust, regarding patients under their care or those referred to other places for further treatment or followup.
  • Maintenance of adequate and proper records on patients for both clinical and audit purposes (including data input into the computer system) and for the furnishing of letters, reports and other documentation as required for medical, legal and statutory purposes.
  • Coding diagnostics and treatment of patients on the information system
