Compassion in World Farming was founded in 1967 by Peter Roberts, a British dairy farmer, who was concerned at the growing disconnect between industrial agriculture and the well-being of animals and the environment.

Today, Compassion in World Farming (Compassion) is a powerful global movement dedicated to ending factory farming and transforming our food systems.

Compassion has executed a series of highly successful strategies that have laid the foundations for game changing leadership, driving growth, influence, and impact for animals.

We have built on our reputation as a global organisation that punches above its weight through delivering many successes for animals and the environment.

Now we must turn that recognition into action - to move away from industrial animal agriculture to food systems that reconnect animal welfare, food production and nature through regenerative, agroecological farming combined with nutritious and balanced diets.

This is a new and exciting opportunity to work for Compassion supporting the organisational international policy advocacy strategy and the organisational evidence base on food systems transformation in line with the relevant United Nations Conventions and the Sustainable Development Agenda.

The focus of this work is to strengthen Member State and UN system support to address key areas of concern related to industrial animal agriculture, including issues such as nutrient waste and pollution, antimicrobial resistance, climate change, biodiversity loss, over-reliance on animal sourced foods in high consuming populations and nutrition security.

Through your science-policy expertise, you will be supporting the International Affairs and Research teams in:

  • Building and managing a network of external stakeholder relationships to advance Compassion's global policy agenda with Member States, selected UN bodies/programmes, and academics.
  • Representing Compassion at external international meetings and events, and effectively communicate the organisational policy positions to a range of audiences.
  • Writing high quality position papers, briefings, and comments for a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Providing expert knowledge and advice to inform and support colleagues.
  • Managing selected projects (e.g., policy reports, sciencepolicy webinars).

You will work with a broad spectrum of Compassion colleagues to provide expert knowledge in order to inform and support global policy initiatives and research needs in line with the organizational strategy - either with a focus on Member State and UN engagement or delivering Compassion's organisational objectives on food systems transformation, animal agriculture, and balanced diets within planetary health boundaries.
