Healthcare Assistant - Chemo Day Unit (37.5hrs per week)

Oncology HCA

Nuffield Health at St Bartholomew's Hospital | Permanent | Full time

Up to £26,000.00 depending on experience.


We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our growing Oncology team in our outpatient SACT unit, at Britain's largest healthcare charity where we are helping to build a healthier nation.


We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual to deliver patient-centered, evidence-based care under the supervision of the clinical team.

You will support the team to assist with nursing, medical and administrative duties in the provision of direct and indirect patient care and associated general duties ensuring an efficient service at all times.


Along the way, you'll build strong relationships with consultants, hospital senior leaders, a wide range of healthcare professionals and, of course, patients.

You will need to be reliable and enthusiastic, with recent hospital experience.

We need caring individuals who respect their patients and colleagues, you must be able to communicate at all levels and be a strong patient advocate.


Duties and responsibilities:


Assisting in the provision of care to patients so as to ensure their comfort/safety needs are identified, taking into consideration cultural, religious beliefs, respecting values and respecting those beliefs.

Reporting to nurses any problems arising out of conversations with patients, acting as the patient advocate at all times.


Report patient's condition when required and record observations of temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, urinalysis, Blood glucose monitoring, pulse oximetry, weight and height.

Preparing dressing/procedures under the direction of the clinical team and for which instruction has been given.

Assisting nursing and medical staff when required with different procedures with supervision and competency.

Perform ad hoc duties/projects as directed.

Maintain up to date mandatory training and attend other training as relevant to the position.

Must be accurate and have a strong desire for attention to detail.

Assist with auditing processes, maintaining equipment logs and administrative duties.

Be willing to take on link roles to help with the efficient running of the service.


Skills and experience:

Minimum NVQ level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care.

Competent on MS Office, Teams and other relevant packages.

Phlebotomy competent desirable but not essential, training can be provided.

Previous experience working in Cancer Care desirable.

Must be able to effectively communicate in English verbally and written.
