Job Summary:

A Local Planning Authority based in the North West are seeking a Principal Policy Officer for a rolling 6-month contract.

In this role you will be joining a multi-disciplinary team, which focuses on Strategic Planning and Housing matters, including Planning Policy.


Responsibilities tied to this process also include finalising Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) charging schedules and updating/reviewing existing Local Plan documents across key areas such as housing, infrastructure delivery, green corridors, employment land, and open spaces.


Key Duties:

  • Draft technical planning policy documents while updating and revising existing documents.
  • Progress Local Plan policies through informal and statutory procedures.
  • Coordinate extensive consultation exercises by engaging with community groups and strategic partners.
  • Review and update existing evidence base and policy documents to optimize the effectiveness of the council's Local Plan and emerging policies.
  • Represent the council at examinations when required.
  • Negotiate with landowners.
  • Conduct member briefings.
