Description

The post holder will be responsible for managing all requests to send and receive imaging from BSUH to all other hospitals across the country and will be required to produce accurate reports using data from the Imaging Radiology Systems.


  • Extracting data from the PACS/RIS systems to Radiology data management
- day-to-day administration of the CRIS and PACS systems

  • To be the central point of contact for the administration of PACS/CRIS.
  • Use the Image Exchange Portal (IEP) manage and support image exchange with external organisations.
  • Frequently liaising with IT and suppliers for system support.
  • Liaising with IT and suppliers over contingency cover.
  • Develop a high level knowledge of the PACS/RIS System and using this to troubleshoot in times of system downtime.
  • Using a good level of knowledge of PCs, networks and MS Windows to be able to advise Trust staff on the most appropriate way to use the Imaging systems.
  • Be able to deliver CRIS and PACS training to staff of all levels and disseminate knowledge to address the requirements of a range of system users, from frontline clinical staff to senior management/Consultant staff.
  • Create CDs copies of patient images to be used for multidisciplinary meetings/case studies and to be sent to neighbouring Trusts and organisations.
  • Run audits to monitor inputting errors on CRIS to ensure consistent correct information is stored and used.
  • Administer system access which includes; the provision of User ID and passwords to acceptable users following training, keeping full records of all training provided and all current and ex User ID's issued.
  • To act as an advocate for and to promote best practice in regard to CRIS.
  • To be involved in the creation of new ways of working related to CRIS and PACS and their interaction with other clinical and hospital computer systems. To assist with the administration of working procedures which will be implemented during periods of planned and unplanned system downtime and promote practices to minimise the need for system downtime.
  • Ensure that the CRIS and PACS databases are updated and synchronised as soon as possible after the resumption of normal service following downtime.
  • Administer processes to maintain Data Integrity.
  • Participate in System Testing and training for subsequent upgrades.
  • Participate in the maintenance of database integrity e.g. ensuring there are no unprofiled/unreported examinations.
  • Promote enforcement of Trust and IT security policies for the departments IT services.
  • Provide direct technical knowledge on CRIS/PACS problem solving.
  • To occasionally deputise for the Imaging Information and Performance manager as required.
  • Comply with all Trust and imaging Department protocols, procedures and guidelines.
