This is a key role in the 'Our Future Coast' team and an exciting opportunity to be at the cutting edge of flood risk management on the North West Coast.


The Engagement Officer will be delivering community engagement activities as a crucial part of this innovative 5-year programme to test and develop nature-based solutions for coastal flood risk management through one of 25 pioneering projects awarded funding under the Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (FCRIP).

You will be central to ensuring the programme is grounded in community collaboration and help to facilitate co-design.

Coastal Communities are at the frontline of the climate challenge and we will work together with key stakeholders to find solutions, placing great importance on the early engagement of local communities.


The Our Future Coast programme will develop 14 varied site-based projects along the North West coast from the Wirral to West Cumbria.

There are two part time (0.5 FTE) Engagement Officers and this advertised post will focus on the southern sites. The two officers will work closely together and with the rest of the programme team and stakeholders.


The officer's day to day duties will including identifying community champions and working with them through hosting and facilitating workshops, meetings etc.

These interactions will identify community interests, aspirations, and perspectives and work to find site-specific activities and solutions with positive outcomes, such as, the restoration of degraded dunes.

Engagement will also involve citizen science activities and spread the learning through accessible case studies, reports and multi-media outputs.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about promoting collaboration.

We need a superb communicator, with the personal skills to build trust, and with a practical understanding of community and landowner engagement.

You must be confident, articulate and able to explain complex or technical information simply, clearly and with enthusiasm. We encourage applicants with transferrable skills and experience.
