_SENIOR CARE ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION_

MAIN PURPOSE:

To ensure continuity of care and support to residents by promoting and delivering high standards of care, individually and safely.

To act as a role model for other staff by supporting, demonstrating and instructing less experienced staff to enable them to fully contribute to the care team by providing person-centred care in accordance with home's policies and procedures.

Registered Manager


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • To lead and direct care staff on shift, to deliver an effective, timemanaged service which meets the needs of all our residents.
  • To provide staff support, demonstration and instruction of care activities, particularly in relation to the induction of new staff.
  • To conduct handover at the end of shift, ensuring all relevant and appropriate information is passed to incoming Senior staff.
  • To enhance and promote our residents' quality of life.
  • To participate in the rota, ensuring senior care support is available at all times.
  • To be responsible for the checkingin and administration of prescribed medication to residents.
  • To liaise with and make referral to GPs, District Nurses, SALT and Falls Teams and other professionals as required.
  • To action Diary entries as required.
  • To accept responsibility for coordinating and accurate completion of individual care plan documentation, including monthly review and evaluation of plans and updating/amending as appropriate.
  • To be responsible for checking and signing off the daily documentation as required.
  • To weigh residents on a weekly/monthly basis as appropriate, completing the MUST tool and reporting results to the Registered Manager.
  • To assist in the personal care of residents including toileting, bathing, dressing and undressing, ensuring optimum independence, dignity and respect of individuals.
  • To deliver and/or delegate the following tasks and monitor compliance with instructions:
  • To serve meals and beverages, encouraging and assisting in the feeding of residents requiring additional attention at mealtimes as required.
  • To attend to residents with reduced continence control, toileting, cleaning and changing continence pads and removing wet or soiled clothing to ensure the resident remains comfortable and the risk of skin deterioration is reduced.
  • To carry out care activities in accordance with the individual care plan for less active and/or poorly residents, particularly turning and moving to reduce the development of pressure sores.
  • To assist residents with restricted mobility to move to dining areas at mealtimes and other communal areas for social activities and stimulation or to the privacy of their bedrooms at their request.
  • To ensure hydration and nutrition needs are met for all residents.
  • To ensure bedroom areas are kept tidy, pleasant and comfortable by making beds, regularly changing bed linen and emptying commodes.
  • To thoroughly and regularly clean equipment involved in the personal care of residents, including commodes and wheelchairs.
  • To practice safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular, moving and handling of loads, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety and the safety of residents, visitors and other staff.
  • To understand personal responsibilities with regard to Health & Safety at Work legislation, especially in relation to moving and handling of residents, and fire safety and evacuation procedures.
  • To attend and fully contribute to staff and residents' meetings.
  • To act courteously towards residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident.
  • To contribute fully to team working, responding positively to colleagues and executing all reasonable work instructions promptly whilst promoting good antidiscriminatory practices.

Person Specification:


  • To be qualified or working towards to NVQ III, or equivalent.
  • To hold Level 3 qualification in the Administration of Medication.
  • To have extensive experience working with the home's client group
  • To have the ability to work under pressure.
  • To be selfmotivated
  • To possess good time management and organisational skills
  • To be a proactive team member and possess the ability to motivate yourself and mentor others in the safe care and personcentred support of residents.
  • To have the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • To possess excellent interpersonal skills.
