£19,916

Amey is working in partnership with Staffordshire County Council since 2014, to manage and maintain the county's highways infrastructure.


We deliver infrastructure services across 6,000KM of Staffordshire by providing maintenance to road, cycle routes, bridges, tunnels, lighting, drainage, traffic signals, trees, and land.


By carrying out such works we aim to improve and provide effective highways services for the local residents and communities of Staffordshire.


As a Highways Maintenance Operative Apprentice your every day will be different One day, you might be working on installing traffic management systems, the next you might be working on minor civil works like temporary patching or ditching.


You will also be responsible for:

  • Routine and cyclic maintenance activities.
  • Minor civil works.
  • Drainage works.
  • Carriageway patching.
As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Highways Maintenance Skilled Operatives Level 2 qualification.

You will be fully supported by our partnered college to achieve this qualification by attending college 1-day per week, having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of experts on hand for advice and technical knowledge at your office.

You'll be provided with a "buddy", to assist you as you settle in.

This is the person will be the friendly face when you join our Highways team - the go-to person that you will ask lots of questions to when you start Once you have settled in, you will be allocated your mentor in the workplace.

Your mentor will support you throughout your qualification, help you learn the technical skills and have regular catch-up with you to ensure that you are on the way to become our next Highways superstar

At the end of your Apprenticeship, you will move into a guaranteed permanent position with Amey, and your development does not stop there As part of being an employee at Amey, you will be given lots of opportunities to further your development; whether that is by doing further qualifications which Amey will fund through our Apprenticeship Schemes or progressing further in the business into our supervisor positions, the choice is yours


We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Full driving license.
  • Successful applicants need to be 18 years of age or older.
  • Apprentices without Level 1 in English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 English and Maths prior to taking the endpoint assessment.
  • Passion for developing your skills both professional and personally.
  • You must be available to join the programme in September 202
